Cass Grafton and Ada Bright visited my blog about a year ago, July 5, 2016 to be exact. Here is a link to that visit should you want to go back and take a look. Thanks for stopping by and reading my share in the conversation...

The Particular Charm of Miss Jane Austen is a book that I thoroughly enjoyed. It is set
in Bath, England, during the September Jane Austen Festival, the present time.
That alone was awesome as the reader gets to participate in the fun activities
of the festival with the characters. Add a little mystery, some time travel and,
of course, some romance and it’s a unique book that is hard to put down. I
loved this book from beginning to end.
The novel is written by two authors in different parts
of the world but one would never know it when reading the text. The story flows
flawlessly. I never knew when one author stopped and the other one took over.
It is that seamless. Their writing style and story-telling abilities are so
alike that it would seem to be written by only one person. Great job, ladies.
Rose and Morgan, online friends, finally get to meet
when Morgan travels to Bath to attend the Jane Austen Festival with Rose and
stay for a visit. It is such fun reading about their meeting, all the things
they experience, who they meet and how everything changes both of their lives. I
felt I was there living it all with them. There is a surprise ‘character’ in
the book, who it seems the authors captured perfectly. I adored this person and
wanted to know more. (I was thrilled to read there is a sequel coming!) Rose’s
boss, James, and Aiden, an archeologist are the two leading males. The story
that revolves around all five of these characters is fascinating and
intriguing. It grabbed my interest from the beginning and I didn’t want to put
the book down.
One of the many neat things about the book was
discovering what would have happened if Jane Austen had not been published. It
was a scary thought. The world changed so much. Not only would that have been
terrible for everyone that loves Jane Austen’s novels, but the effect was
far-reaching, much more so than some would have imagined. Think about her
influence on the writing, in particular, and the world, in general. How much
would have disappeared had she never published a novel! Frightening, isn’t it?
There is a lovely reference to Persuasion that made me swoon. The ending—well, it gave me
gooseflesh, made me smile and got me super excited all at the same time! It was
perfect! Well done, Ada Bright and Cass Grafton. Just hurry and write the
sequel!
I have purposely focused my review more on the writing
and less on the actual story. I don’t want to give any spoilers. Each reader
needs to ‘suspicion’ and come to his/her own conclusions as he/she reads the
book. The Particular Charm of Miss Jane
Austen is too delicious to spoil for any reader and those ‘ah-ha’ moments
are too good to ruin. 😊.
Any Janeite should love this book. If you haven’t read it yet, I hope you will
put it high on your TBR list! I highly recommend everyone read and savor ‘Charm’ for themselves.

I must say, I’m curious if this story has any connection to the two authors and their friendship? It seems there are some similarities. How about it Cass and Ada?
I can't wait for the sequel to this book. I hope we will not have to wait too long.
Ada Bright and Cass Grafton are giving away a book, winner's choice of a paperback or eBook copy of The Particular Charm of Miss Jane Austen. Thank you Cass and Ada. The giveaway is international and we ask you to please leave a comment to be entered. Be sure to include your contact info in your comment. The giveaway will end on the 23rd of July at 11:59 PM. Good luck to all.
What a fantastic non-spoilery review, Janet! To not even say why Jane's books were never published is a major feat. One of the tiny details that made me sit up and go "Wow!" was when Rose is told that Filch's cat in the Harry Potter books isn't called Mrs. Norris at all.
ReplyDeletePlease don't enter my in the giveaway as I already have ebook and paperback copies of this amazing book. I just need Cass and Ada to get on with writing the sequel!
Thank you, Anji. I'm glad you think so. I felt a bit disjointed with this review but there were so many things that I couldn't say or it would give away more than I wanted to give away!
DeleteYour comment about Mrs. Norris, the cat, is awesome. Cass, being a Harry Potter fan would definitely know about that one, wouldn't she? I would not have remembered even though I loved Harry Potter!
I need them to get on with the sequel writing too! lol
We hear you, Anji! We're both travelling a lot in July, but we'll be on it as soon as we can!
DeleteIt's a great review, Janet. You did a fab job of avoiding spoilers! <3
Yes!!! Loved this one too and had a bad moment at the proof of a non-Jane world. I can't wait for what comes next, either.
ReplyDeleteGreat review!
Thanks, Sophia. I had a bad moment too.
DeleteI'm just glad it was all fiction, Sophia Rose! LOL
DeleteI know exactly what you mean about not giving any spoilers in your review as each person has to have their own suppositions. I too enjoyed this book and looking forward to the continuation! I'm hoping one day I will get to meet those who I have connected online with one day too!
ReplyDeleteOh, wouldn't it believe lovely to meet our online friends. I would love that too.
DeleteGlad you understand about the review and trying my best NOT to give any spoilers. I had a tough time! lol
We should all have a meet up in Bath one day, ladies! Though perhaps we'd be eyeing everyone lady suspiciously, wondering if she was a certain someone! ;)
DeleteI'm am reading this right now and am absolutely loving it. I am excited that there will be a sequel
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear, Anna, and I'm excited to hear you are absolutely loving it. Yes, yes, yes, to that sequel. It can't happen soon enough for me! lol
DeleteHope you continue to enjoy, Anna!!
DeleteIt's underway, Janet! :D
Thanks for the great review, Janet. I've been fascinated by the plot for this book ever since I first heard about it. It's such a novel idea! I love anything Cass Grafton writes, and I'm sure co-writing a book with Ada Bright will make it even that much better. Congratulations, ladies!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, Jan. I'm so glad you stopped by. The plot of this book is fascinating. I think you will love it! I feel the same as you about anything Cass Grafton writes. She is such a lovely writer. As I said in the review, I couldn't tell where she stopped and Ada Bright took over and vice versa. It was smoothly done.
DeleteI hope you'll give the story a try, Jan. It's not exactly JAFF this time, but I think there's a lot for a JAFF fan to enjoy in it! :D
DeleteIt is delightful having so many books available about Jane Austen herself. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteGood luck in the draw, Betty!
DeleteLovely review, Janet! Oh my, a world without our dear Jane would be terrible indeed! I'm so glad she wrote such wonderful stories and look forward to reading this book!

I hope you enjoy it, Maria! Good luck in the draw!
DeleteJanet, the review is beautifully written though I don't mind getting spoiled. At least it can prepare me to know whether it is worth my time or not. Hope I can be considered for the giveaway but I don't put my hopes up because there's too much things going around last week that I missed this.

It's still open as far as I know, Luthien!
DeleteI don't mind spoilers either, but there are plenty of reviews on Amazon.com and some may be less discreet than Janet if you want more clues! ;)
