Available on Amazon
Please help me welcome, author Pamela Lynne, back to
More Agreeably Engaged. Her latest release, Family Portraits, is a Dearest Friends continuation. That is good news for us readers.

Pamela shares an excerpt with us to tempt and tease! Yes, it will make you want to read more! She is also giving away one eBook copy so be sure and share your thoughts.

~~~~~~~~~~
Hello everyone! I’m so happy to be back here at More Agreeably Engaged. Thank you, Janet, for being such a lovely host. I’m so grateful for your hospitality that I won’t even push to see who is #2 of your Austen Men in Film + 2, though I am dying to know!
Speaking of pushy, I bring with me an excerpt from Family Portraits that shows the effects of living with, and enabling the bad behavior of, Caroline Bingley. One of the themes flowing throughout Family Portraits is the comparison of strength versus weakness. We see it with Mary and Jane, and below, with Mr. Gardiner and Bingley. Mr. Gardiner has just spoken to Jane and is quite unhappy with the state of affairs at Netherfield.
*~*
 “What did you find out, Remy?”
“The maids had much to say, eventually.”
Gardiner suppressed a smile, assuming Remy’s irritation was caused by the maids’ attempts at flirting or extorting their own bits of information. Likely both.
“Did you confirm anything from my sister’s letter?”
“Yes, sir. They said the village has been buzzing for months. The worst of it is that the small Miss Bingley is not actually a Bingley.”
Gardiner nodded, not the least bit surprised that Miss Bingley would abuse the reputation of a child in such a way. “What did they say of the elder Miss Bingley?”
“That they never know who they will encounter. She seems to be two people occupying the same body. She is either calm and calculating or irate and irrational. It is always clear, however, how she despises Miss Jane.”
“And Mr. Bingley?”
“They did not speak of him at all.”
“Well, let us see what he has to say for himself.” They stopped outside the study door where a footman was standing guard. “Is your master in?”
The man nodded in confirmation, and Mr. Gardiner opened the door and entered without being announced, and Remy followed close behind.
Bingley sat behind his large wooden desk, staring down at some ledgers in concentration. It was a moment before he noticed his visitors. He rose and greeted his wife’s uncle amiably.
“Mr. Gardiner! I did not know you were here. Jane did not tell me she was expecting you.”
“I came unannounced, Mr. Bingley. I received a letter from my sister Phillips that caused some concern.”
“Oh? Are she and Mr. Phillips well?” Bingley gestured for Mr. Gardiner to sit, and he did the same.
“Yes, yes, they are well. She actually wrote to me about Jane and all the rumors that are going about the village.”
“Oh.” Bingley slinked back in his seat.
“You are already aware of what is being said?”
“Yes.” He sighed and ran his hand through his hair. “My steward had heard some tales, and he spoke to me. He has always lived close to Meryton and knew the Bennets. He did not believe the rumors and attempted to set the gossipers to rights. I assure you, sir, none of what is being said is true. You must not think poorly of dear Jane.”
Gardiner leaned forward slightly and stared down the fool in front of him. “Mr. Bingley, I did not come here to ask if the rumors are true. I came to ask what you are doing to stop them. I assume, since you know of their existence, you also know their origin.”
Bingley shifted nervously in his seat. “Jane and Caroline had a disagreement. It is possible that Caroline…overreacted. It will blow over soon enough. Anything I say will likely make the situation worse. It is best if I do not interfere.”
“Best for whom, Mr. Bingley? Certainly not for Jane and not even for your sister, for if she continues her current behavior, she will eventually harm her own reputation, and more importantly, Claire’s. If you care about either of those women or your daughter, you had damned well better interfere and repair what you have helped damage.”
Bingley rose and moved to stand behind his chair. It was the move of a weak man, desperate to put a barrier between himself and the man carrying the power of honest words.
“How have I damaged anything? The disagreement was between the two of them. I remained neutral through the entire argument.”
“And since then, Mr. Bingley, how has your sister been able to spread these rumors about your wife?”
He stood as his anger began to rise. “Whose carriage does she take to the village? Who pays for the paper and ink that carry her lies to her friends? In whose home does she entertain those who wish to make your beautiful wife feel lowly and plain? You may not form her words, but you give her every opportunity to deliver them. If you were in ignorance, I would be more likely to excuse your inaction, but you know it all and do nothing!”
The strength of Mr. Gardiner’s voice caused Bingley’s to stammer. “Caroline gets upset easily now, and calming her is becoming harder. Jane is so sweet and forgiving. I know she will overlook Caroline’s misdeeds when she understands what little control she has over the strength of her feelings.”
“Mr. Bingley, your sister has no need to control her emotions when it is so easy for her, instead, to control you.”
“I do not understand you.”
“Well, sir, while you think on the meaning of those words, contemplate these as well. When I see someone I love in distress, I am not content to let things blow over. If you do not hold your sister responsible for her actions, I will hold you responsible for yours.”
Bingley said no more and watched as Mr. Gardiner turned to leave. The tall footman who accompanied him stayed a moment longer, staring through him, before following. Bingley sat once more and contemplated Mr. Gardiner’s words. For him to have come to Hertfordshire, which he seemed to avoid as much as possible, perhaps the situation was not going away on its own as he had hoped. He would have to speak to Caroline.
Lory Lilian's Challenge
Today I welcome to More Agreeably Engaged, author Lory Lilian. It is such a pleasure to have you visit. I do hope you will come back again. Lory Lilian released a new book, The Rainbow Promise, the end of June. The cover is stunning with the multicolor rose. It does go well as a follow up to the rose on Rainy Days. I haven't read the new book but look forward to some time to sit down and enjoy it.
I will now turn it over to Ms. Lilian. Be sure and take note of her generous giveaway at the end of the post.
~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Janet, thank you so much for having me at your lovely blog. You know, I just had a shocking revelation: although I follow your site all the time, this is the first time that I am actually “visiting” it. I am very excited to be here.

I thought a lot about the subject of this post and the idea came to me from the very book that is always close to me: Pride and Prejudice. These days, as I am writing a new story, I return again and again to the original (although I almost know it by heart) and an idea just popped into my head: what was it that aroused my hunger for fanfiction 20 years ago? We all know that part of Jane Austen’s genius consisted in saying little and suggesting / implying very much. But what were the moments of the wonderful Pride and Prejudice that left me intrigued and eager to know more, to imagine more? What precisely induced me to surf the internet, to start reading countless stories about my favorite couple, and finally to shyly begin allowing my imagination to create stories of my own?

And this is the question and the challenge I address to your lovely readers: what are your top 3 - 5 moments of Pride and Prejudice that can be “blamed” for leading you toward the JAFF genre?

After a long struggle, I managed to choose five, but of course there are at least twenty more. I avoided the major scenes - the Netherfield ball dance, the first proposal, the visit at Pemberley, the

1.   Meryton Assembly Ball – the description of Darcy. “Mr. Darcy danced only once with Mrs. Hurst and once with Miss Bingley, declined being introduced to any other lady, and spent the rest of the evening in walking about the room, speaking occasionally to one of his own party. His character was decided. He was the proudest, most disagreeable man in the world, and every body hoped that he would never come there again.” The moment I read it ( thirty years ago lol) I tried to imagine what he really looked like and what was in his mind. That happened long before I saw any movie or miniseries, so I knew only what JA wished to reveal – so very little.

         2.  Chapter 6 – the first steps of Darcy falling in love: “But no sooner had he made it clear to himself and his friends that she had hardly a good feature in her face, than he began to find it was rendered uncommonly intelligent by the beautiful expression of her dark eyes. To this discovery succeeded some others equally mortifying. Though he had detected with a critical eye more than one failure of perfect symmetry in her form, he was forced to acknowledge her figure to be light and pleasing; and in spite of his asserting that her manners were not those of the fashionable world, he was caught by their easy playfulness. Of this she was perfectly unaware; -- to her he was only the man who made himself agreeable nowhere, and who had not thought her handsome enough to dance with. He began to wish to know more of her, and as a step towards conversing with her himself, attended to her conversation with others. Poor Darcy, what torment must have been in his mind and in his heart; and it was only the beginning. (and what a perfect starting point for a jaff story, right ?)
          3.   Chapter 10 - Darcy’s invitation to dance a reel – what a sweet and sharp exchange, which showed so much of Elizabeth’s wit and strength.
      4.  Chapter 33 – More than once did Elizabeth, in her ramble within the Park, unexpectedly meet Mr. Darcy. She felt all the perverseness of the mischance that should bring him where no one else was brought, and, to prevent its ever happening again, took care to inform him at first that it was a favourite haunt of hers. How it could occur a second time, therefore, was very odd! Yet it did, and even a third. It seemed like wilful ill-nature, or a voluntary penance, for on these occasions it was not merely a few formal enquiries and an awkward pause and then away, but he actually thought it necessary to turn back and walk with her. He never said a great deal, nor did she give herself the trouble of talking or of listening much; but it struck her in the course of their third rencontre that he was asking some odd unconnected questions - … What a wonderful opportunity for them to better know each other, completely wasted by both. What was he possibly thinking here? What storm of feelings rose inside him?
        5.  Chapter 50 –Elizabeth’s regrets. She began now to comprehend that he was exactly the man who, in disposition and talents, would most suit her. His understanding and temper, though unlike her own, would have answered all her wishes. It was a union that must have been to the advantage of both; by her ease and liveliness, his mind might have been softened, his manners improved; and from his judgment, information, and knowledge of the world, she must have received benefit of greater importance. I absolutely love this small fragment and it is always a source of inspiration for me. I feel it described perfectly ODC and can be anytime developed into a full story – as I know it was, and I am sure it will be again. That’s why I love the JAFF genre so much.

Lory, I love this idea of allowing the readers to ponder about their top 3-5 moments that stole their hearts for Pride & Prejudice. This will be an intriguing discussion, I am certain. I will have to think on this myself and will give my thoughts in the comment section. I have several that come to mind almost immediately. Thank you for challenging us to give this some thought.
I didn't realize you had never visited my blog before now. Doing the review of your book, His Uncle's Favorite, in July of 2013, is the closest you have been. We will have to remedy that. Please come back for a visit soon. You are always welcome.
Now for the giveaway details. Yes, dear readers, there is a giveaway. Ms. Lilian is very generous too. She is offering two eBooks to two lucky readers. It will be winner's choice of any of her books and the giveaway is international. Thank you so much, Lory Lilian for such a lovely giveaway. The giveaway will end at 11:59 PM on the 14th of September. Good luck to all of you.

Mystery Man #1 Revealed!

 All of the comments that were left on the Calendar 2017 Austen Men in Film + 2 post were fun and exciting for me. You really had some good guesses and wonderful thoughts. I appreciate all of them. I have decided to go ahead and reveal Mystery Man #1 today. Some of you were right on, but then as many posts as I have recently done about North & South fan-fiction, I figured some of you would guess that one was indeed, John Thornton.

Richard Armitage did such a fantastic job showing the feelings and emotions written of John Thornton by the author, Elizabeth Gaskell. They were subtle looks but spoke multitudes. I had a tough time deciding on the scene that I wanted to portray because there were so many good ones. I just knew I wanted it to have one of those fabulous expressions. Below is my artistic interpretation of his look when Margaret tells John of her wishes to loan him some of her inherited money to keep Marborough Mills running.

Again, if any of you want to preorder the calendar, it will be for the $10 cost. If you wait to order after the calendar is released, the price will be $12. You can let me know by using the contact form to the right of this post and below the 'Call Here' list. You can also email me at janet at jt-originals dot com. If you live in the US and want one calendar, I can ship it first class for $4, for a total of $14. If you want more than one, I will ship it priority mail for $6.45 plus the number ordered times 10. (priority mail is cheaper for more than one calendar)

If you live outside the US, first class shipping is $11.50.  For one calendar plus shipping it would run $21.50. I will double check that before I bill you. Several have already preordered and I will be contacting you. You can pay by credit card or PayPal. I accept both. Just let me know your preference.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me! I will do my best to answer your questions.

The calendar should be ready to ship sometime in November. Since I am drawing all pictures, it is taking me a bit longer this year.

Thank you for stopping by and I welcome your comments!

Calendar 2017 Austen Men in Film + Two

It is the time of year that I am busy working on my yearly Jane Austen Calendar. For 2017 the theme is Austen Men in Film + Two. The plus two being men portrayed in films from non-Austen novels. These two men will still be from two different period films and my hope is that you will be pleased with their addition to the calendar. As of yet, I have not made their identities public knowledge but will at a later date. I want to keep you in suspense! :)

There are quite a few participants again this year and even several authors that it is their first time to be a part of the calendar. I think you are all in for a treat, if the quotes I have been getting are any indication of the books being published. You will have the opportunity to read these quotes and see what books intrigue and tempt you.

The calendar will be released a little later this year than in the past two years. Since I am drawing all the pictures for each month, it takes me longer to get it all put together. Because of that, I will not be posting the drawings regularly on my blog. I will probably show several of them when it is closer to time for the calendar's release. I do have one drawing that I am going to share with you today. It is of an actor who played his part extremely well, as he did always. This drawing is my tribute to him for the many films in which he starred and the many roles he played making us truly love or hate his character. He did them all with class and with ease.

From Jane Austen's Sense & Sensibility, I give you my tribute to Alan Rickman as Colonel Brandon.

The other 'Austen Men in Film' are Edward Ferrars from Sense & Sensibility played by Dan Stevens, Captain Frederick Wentworth of Persuasion, played by Ciaran Hinds and Rupert Penry-Jones. Of course, there will be both Darcy's, Colin Firth and Matthew Macfadyen from Pride and Prejudice. I will include two Mr. Knightley's from Emma, Jonny Lee Miller and Jeremy Northam. J.J. Fields as Henry Tilney from Northanger Abbey and Blake Ritson as Edmund Bertram from Mansfield Park round out the ten Austen men.

If you think you may purchase a 2017 calendar, consider pre-ordering one. I am offering a pre-order price of $10. That is the same price I have had for the calendar for the past few years. After the calendar is released, the price will go up to $12 per calendar. I hate to increase the price, but my cost has continued to rise. Until now, I have not increased the price of the calendar to reflect those rising costs but feel I must this year. You can let me know by the contact form on this blog or by email if you want to pre-order a calendar. I should have the pre-order form on my website, JT Originals, within the next few weeks. Also, if you pre-order directly from me instead of the website, I can keep your shipping costs down some, too. That is a benefit, as well, since shipping costs continue to rise.

Let me know what you think of next year's theme. I would love to hear from you. Do you want to take a guess or two of who you think might be one or both of the plus two's? I'm working on one of them now and having a good time drawing him. :) I always have fun looking at the movies, pausing and photographing stills to use as my models for drawing. Then the real enjoyment comes when I start drawing them. I especially enjoyed drawing Alan Rickman and felt it an honor to do so. I wanted to share that with you, my dear readers.

I hope everyone has had a great weekend and will have a lovely week ahead. Take care and thanks for stopping by.

Second Impressions...Amy George

Available at Amazon
Today is my time for the Blog Tour for Second Impressions by Amy George. We had a bit of a mixup on the dates so my post is coming in a bit late today. For that I apologize to all of you, dear readers.

Ms. George has shared an enticing excerpt with us and there is a giveaway. Don't forget to pop in at all the stops along the tour.

~~~~~~~~~~
     Elizabeth gasped in shock and waited for Kitty to continue. Instead, her sister suddenly lamented Mr. Riley’s absence, and Elizabeth’s attention drifted elsewhere to the ghost of the man from whom she had fled.
     Darcy was still tall, of course, which assisted in maintaining that air of haughtiness she had so disliked, but his pale skin and longer hair diminished the frightening assurance he once conveyed. He looked up, and their eyes met.
     Elizabeth quickly looked away. Her mouth was suddenly dry, so forgetting Kitty entirely, she went in search of a glass of punch. While looking for refreshment, she decided it would not be productive to dwell on Mr. Darcy’s presence, to dwell on what could have been. She had been so close to wanting to call him friend at Pemberley, so close to falling in love with the tenderness she saw in his eyes and the ease he had displayed there and nowhere else. There was no way to go back and change anything, and it was time to accept it.
     She had almost reached the refreshment table when she spotted Mr. Darcy standing just beyond it.
     Any attachment between them was not meant to be, Elizabeth reasoned, but if that were the case, why did the gentleman keep appearing before her as though he were a lion and she were some hapless prey?
     “Miss Bennet, would you do me the honor of dancing the next with me?”
Unable to find an excuse quickly, Elizabeth nodded mutely and felt her heart flutter at the small, shy smile that alighted on Darcy’s lips. He offered his hand and tucked hers through his arm, walking slowly to the floor where they awaited the next set to start.
     Find something impersonal to talk about! Elizabeth’s brain wailed at her.
     “It has turned rather cold this evening. I was outside with the twins earlier, and we were driven back to the house by the wind. I fear winter has finally descended on us full stop.”
     “It would appear so.”
     “At least it did not snow. That would have made travel difficult.”
     He nodded. Darcy’s heart swelled to be standing next to her, touching her. He had dreamt for so long of the moment he would see her again that he nearly felt as though he were sleeping at that moment. She was a beautiful, gauzy illusion—and she was staring at him sternly.
     “I apologize, Miss Bennet.”
     “Mr. Darcy, I do not believe you are even aware of the reason for your apology.”
     “My thoughts wandered while you were speaking. I did not hear what you said.”
     Amusement lit Elizabeth’s eyes, and she blessed him with a tender smile. “Then I apologize for jumping to conclusions, sir. I should not have spoken so.”
     He was half-tempted to tell her she could speak in any way she wished to him as long as she kept conversing with him. Her voice was like a salve upon his wounded soul. Instead, Darcy nodded slightly in acceptance of her unnecessary apology.
     “I fear we shall spend the evening giving offense so the basis of our conversation will be nothing but regrets.”
     Elizabeth looked down at his hand covering hers and felt a powerful energy run through her. It was as though she had too much wine. Her head flew up as the music ended, signaling that their dance would soon begin.
 Blurb:
Once, Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet were foes, then tenuous friends. After Elizabeth discovers Darcy is engaged to another woman, she flees to Boston to seek solace with her cousin, the brash and worldly Emeline Poston.
When she returns to England after years spent abroad, Elizabeth must face the man who shattered her heart, and she is shocked to find the proud man she once knew drastically altered. Does she have the courage to seek out the man with whom she fell in love—whatever the cost?
Fitzwilliam Darcy has spent his days regretting what might have been and his nights being tormented by the decisions he has made. His life in tatters, he can barely face the once-respectable man in his mirror or the baby girl in Pemberley’s nursery. Now that Elizabeth has returned, will he atone for his mistakes and win her heart for good?
This alternate path reimagining of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice is recommended for adult readers
Author Bio:
Amy George is a middle-aged woman who hates her "old lady/grown-up" car and refuses to listen to its radio at a reasonable volume, especially when the Beastie Boys or the Violent Femmes are playing. She lives in a town in the middle of the country where the county fair is one of the biggest social events of the season and everything is fried. Her household consists of a dog, a cat, a man, a hermit, and stubborn soap scum.
She has been writing since she was a child and was a frequent contributor to the Hyacinth Gardens, a popular but defunct JAFF site.
Sarah Johnson, Whispered Kisses and Coloring with Jane!
Sarah Johnson is back at More Agreeably Engaged and she has some good news to share with us! (and a giveaway, too) She's writing too, so that is very good news! To get back to her present projects, I'll turn the floor over to Ms. Johnson. Take it away, Sarah. :)
Thank you so much, Janet, for having me back at More Agreeably Engaged! I have been busy writing in my spare time, and I hope to have another book out soon. For now though I have a few other projects to talk about.
The first project is one I hope everyone will enjoy for years to come. One past-time I enjoy is coloring, and especially with my kids. So one night when I was searching the internet for coloring books with
quotes, and my oldest daughter asked me why I didn't create one with Jane Austen quotes. After thinking about that for a while, I decided I should. So I chose my favorite Jane Austen quotes and went to my large stash of 18th and 19th Century artwork to make the frames. It was such a fun project to create, and I would love to share that with you. Janet will give details below about the giveaway. "Coloring with Jane: A Mind Lively and at Ease" is available in regular coloring book format through Amazon, and available in downloadable and printable PDF format through Etsy.
The second project I am so very happy to announce is my second project with Sophie Andrews. She has lent her beautiful voice to my narrate my latest audiobook, Whispered Kisses. I have a few freebies of this to give away as well, and Janet will give details below. If you have not yet read Whispered Kisses, here is what it is about:
Elizabeth Bennet is a romantic at heart—a dreamer and a writer. While in London, she begins receiving flowers anonymously. Her romantic sensibilities are heightened, leading her mind to create an image of who the giver could be. She soon returns to her home in Hertfordshire with only her memories and thoughts as her constant companions. Months go by without anything, and then, with the news of a visitor to the neighborhood, she once again receives a posy of flowers just before the neighborhood Assembly. Will her romantic dreams of the gentleman’s character tell a true tale or just leave her heart reeling for a love only possible in her fantasies?
Whispered Kisses, as well as all of my books, can be read for free if you are in the Kindle Unlimited program. It is available for purchase in print, eBook, and now audiobook through Amazon, and also available in audiobook through Audible.
I have to give a great big Thank You! to Janet for letting me come here today to tell y'all about these two projects. Now I will turn it back to Janet, who can give the details about these two giveaways!
I have always loved to color and spent lots of time coloring with my son when he was small. Now I have had the fun of coloring with my grandchildren. This will be new inspiration for me to enjoy two of my favorite pastimes, coloring and Jane Austen! Thank you, Sarah Johnson.
Your second good news is very exciting. I loved your first audiobook, Snow Storms and Kissing Games. Sophie Andrews's narration was awesome. I felt she captured Jane and Lizzy perfectly. I'll be listening to this one soon! :) Thank you for sharing all your good news, Sarah.
Giveaway Time! Yay! Sarah Johnson is having a very generous giveaway and it is listed below!
2 audiobooks of Whispered Kisses, international;
2 Coloring with Jane color books, US Only
Giveaway will end at 11:59 PM on the 22nd of August, 2016. Good luck to all!
